XRD-Tools s.r.l.

XRD-Tools s.r.l. was registered in April 2004 as academic spin off from five departments of the Pisa University (Physics, Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, Electric Systems and Automation, Material Engineering, Earth Science) as a follow up from the interdisciplinary research results for the “On-site X-ray Diffraction” applications. Founded by Giovanni Berti, researcher and professor at the Earth Science department of Pisa University, chief of the European group CEN/TC138/WG10, the team includes Francesco De Marco co-researcher since ten years, and Silvano Aldrighetti, expert on mechanical and electrical precision components applications, entered since 2007. A number of trainees and temporary co-operators are part of the staff company.

XRD-Tools was the winner of the Start-up Award–company project. XRD-Tools performs in the frame of Non Destructive Testing methods on components in labs or on site, having any dimensions, weight and shape. These technologies are implemented into the robotic function of DifRob®.

The XRF group is operating at the Earth Science department of University of Pisa since more than thirty years with wide experience gained mainly in Petrography and Miner-alogy. Several methods, standard specimens and technical procedures have been developed by the group and recently updated.

FEI Visualization Sciences Group

FEI Visualization Sciences Group is a leading provider of scientific and industrial multimodal data analysis workflows, offering powerful software applications ranging from advanced 3D data visualization, quantification and simulation digital solutions.

FEI Visualization Sciences Group is the provider of Avizo® 3D analysis software, the virtual materials characterization lab for understanding materials structures and properties of e.g. porous media, metals and alloys, fibrous materials, and composites.

Avizo is a comprehensive, multimodality software solution to characterize material properties and structures. It provides an extensive toolbox for advanced visualization, reconstruction of 3D models, image processing, segmentation, registration, fusion and quantification, image-based solvers, and geometric pre-processing for Finite Element Modeling or Pore Network Modeling. The Avizo environment allows you to integrate data from multiple sources into a single environment from which you can seamlessly analyze 2D and 3D multimodality data.;

Research and Development of Carbon Nanotubes S.A.

Nanothinx S.A. is a Greek SME established in November 2005 focuses on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) production technologies, products and applications (www.nanothinx.com). The company has spun-off from the Institute of Chemical Engineering and High Temperature Chemical Processes (ICE-HT), one of the seven Institutes of the Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas (FORTH). Nanothinx produces various types of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) according to the demand of specific applications (i.e. biomedical applications, membranes, etc.), that have to be well characterized.  Nanothinx boasts the ability to produce the highest “as – produced” nanotube purity (up to 98.5% for multi-walled carbon nanotubes - MWCNTs) at low production cost.  This is achieved by exploiting the patented proprietary production method and catalysts, specially developed in house by the research team of the company.

RayScan Technologies GmbH

RayScan Technologies GmbH is a leading CT-manufacturing company, facing technical challenges, partly in form of system specific innovations, partly in first-time accomplishment of completely new applications and evaluation of specifically designed systems and testing concepts. RayScan Technologies GmbH is an independent company in Germany owned by the management and private investors.

The latest developments are RayScan systems for industrial cone beam tomography (3D-CT) and fan beam tomography (2D-CT) of outstanding performance. RayScan has been the first X-CT system developer using high precision granite manipulators as used by CMMs. Its speciality is the high level of system integration and optimization supported by its own hardware and software development department. Besides X-CT systems, radioscopic systems and automatic analysis software for fully automatic manufacturing control have been developed. Several times RayScan has proven its ability to develop specialized X-CT systems which solve completely new demands. The latest success was a mobile X-CT system for the inspection of the closed accelerator ring LHC at CERN.

With regard to the project RayScan will allocate specialists who have in total more than 50 years of experience in development of advanced X-ray inspection systems and computed tomography.

Excillum AB

Excillum, AB was founded in 2007 as a spin off from research performed at KTH - the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm Sweden. The company develops, builds and sells extreme high performance X-ray sources based on patented liquid-jet target technology as well as in-house developed high brightness electron guns and optics. Excillum currently employs 10 people with a strong focus in R&D and product development of which 5 have Ph.D degrees in applied physics. Excillum has the required both theoretical and practical skills in developing, manufacturing and testing novel state-of-the art X-ray sources.

Funding
